Durga Shakti Nagpal Illegal Sand Minning Case
Durga Shakti Nagpal made the headlines when she exposed the illegal sand mining in the NCR region comprising Faridabad, Delhi, and Noida. It is reported that about 250 to 350 trucks were loaded illegally from the region daily. The cost of this sand is estimated to be Rs 5 billion per year.
The illegal mining renders soil erosion and changes the natural flow of Yamuna and Hindon. As a result of the massive illegal mining, there are high chances of the flood in the area. Looking at the bad consequences, a Special Minning Squad was set up after receiving many complaints.
Nagpal, the SDM, used surprise to arrest the illegal miners operating in the area and confiscate their machinery. As per the reports, 17 FIRs were filed, illegal miners were arrested in 22 cases, and Rs 8,234,000 were collected in fines. Due to her action against the sand mafia, she was targeted during her visit to the Kasna Police Station.
Durga Shakti Nagpal Suspension
Nagpal was suspended by the Uttar Pradesh government after she passed the orders to smash a wall of an under-construction mosque in Kadalpur village, in the Rabupura area of Greater Noida. It was still clouded whether Durga was involved in the demolition or justified in her actions.

However, her supporters at the time gave a statement that she did not order the destruction nor was present at the site when the event took place. Her supporters claim that her rivals from the illegal sand mining case have put false allegations to take revenge. While on the other hand, some local villagers claimed that Durga personally supervised the mosque wall’s destruction.
A chargesheet was filed against her by the UP government in which she claimed to be innocent and reported that her actions were as per the supreme court’s direction. However, due to a strong public protest, the Uttar Pradesh government has to invalidate her suspension.
Different political parties and organisations of Indian bureaucrats were on standby for her side. On 5th October 2013, after the revocation of her suspension, she joined as Joint Magistrate of Kanpur.
Rivalries of the IAS officer have also targeted her family. On 11th October 2014, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav suspended her husband, Abhishek Singh, for treating a teacher inhumanely. Although Abhishek denies the charges put against him and the government does not give any proof of what inhuman action he has done.
