The tenure of the MP Legislative Assembly is planned to end on 6th January 2024; therefore, elections are scheduled to be held before November 2023 to elect the new legislative assembly. The most tentative date for the state election is November 28, 2023.
In the prior elections, the INC party formed the state government, with Kamal Nath becoming the state’s chief minister. But the state government took a turn on March 22, 2020, when 22 Congress party MLAs resigned from the assembly and departed to BJP.
This resulted in the destruction of the ruling Congress party in MP, and Shivraj Singh Chouhan became the new Chief Minister. The current chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chauhan, has been the longest-serving CM of the state.

Both parties are putting their best efforts into forming the government, as Shivraaj Singh Chauhan is looking forward to another five-year term while, on the other hand, Congress is trying hard to regain its powers lost after 2003.

There were talks that the Congress and BSP were forming an alliance for the Vidhan Sabha Election, Mayawati, however, chose to fight the poll with the maximum number of candidates. According to the reports, 105 candidates have filed for the election contesting from the Rewa district, followed by Satna and Bhopal.
While addressing reporters after the preparedness meeting for the MP Assembly elections, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that the party would win 150 seats from 230 seats of Vidhan Sabha in MP. He further added that the Karnataka result would be repeated in MP state. But when the media asked about the CM candidate Rahul Gandhi, without disclosing anything, laid emphasis on the party’s goal of winning the election.
The party has far made five promises, including the Old pension scheme, free electricity up to 100 units, cash assistance of Rs 1500 to women, a Farm loan Waiver and an LPG cylinder at Rs 500.
On the other hand, the current Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chauhan, addressing the rally, said that Bhartiya Janta Party would win over 200 seats in the Vidhan Sabha Election held at the end of the year. Both BJP and Congress are leaving no stone unearth to win the election.
