Passport Seva 2.0
As you may know but are still mentioning, that Passport is an essential document to be kept while travelling abroad irrespective of the reasons, including education, tourism, pilgrimage, business purpose, family visits or whatever the reason may be.
India Vs China Power Comparison
The need and demand for passports are increasing day by day, and to meet the requirements of the people, a need for the wider reach and availability of passports are a must. This is why the Ministry of External Affairs started the Passport Seva 2.0 Portal.
Passport Seva 2.0 Portal
The Ministry of External Affairs, Minister S Jaishankar, while addressing the occasion of Passport Sewa Diwas informed the citizens about the efforts they made to provide the Passport vigorously and enthusiastically during the Covid-19 pandemic. Through Passport Seva 2.0, he said, citizens will receive enhanced passport services and a digital ecosystem.
The new Passport Seva 2.0 Portal is using the latest and emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Chat-Bot, Advance Analytics, Use of Big-Data etc. The ePassports rollout by the Ministry makes international travel easier and serves as protection against identity theft and data security. In addition, the latest e-Passports have been integrated with the DigiLocker system to replace the hassle paper documentation process.
Creators of e-Passport in India
We should also know the names of the creators who made the new digital e-Passport. The e-Passport is created by the three major technical institutes in India, namely,
- Indian Institute of Technology-Kanpur
- India Security Press and the Ministry of External Affairs officials
- National Informatics Centre
Passport Seva 2.0 : e-Passport New Benefits
e-Passport supports the Digital India programme, is built by using the latest technologies and is inbuilt with a chip containing all biometric information of the holder. The chip embedded in the passport comes with 64 kb of storage space.
It has a digital mode of identifying details of the holder like the name, date of birth etc. The digital signature of the holder authenticates the data on the chip. Hence strengthening the security and abandoning the leak of personal data information of the holder. Thus bringing transparency to travel documentation. The new e-Passport serves many additional benefits, which the previous passports excluded. Some of them are:
- e-Passport comes with a biometric identifier which helps in tackling the problems like duplicate passports, data privacy etc.
- The data entered in e-Passport is impossible to wipe out. Thus misleading due to data can’t be possible.
- Now passengers do not need to wait for a long time in standing queues at the check gates.
Difference Between an e-Passport and a regular Passport
Now that you know the benefits of e-passports, we would like to differentiate between the new e-passport and regular passports so that you can understand the benefits and advantages of the new digital passport rather than the old one.
It is more secure to travel with an electronic passport with an embedded data chip than with a regular passport. Now no one can wipe out the data stored in the chip hence the fear of duplicate passports and other fraudulent activities will be controlled. In contrast, the regular passport has data in printed form that an optical reader can scan.
